HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) is the original method for synthesizing diamond, replicating the extreme conditions found deep within the Earth where natural diamonds form. In this process, a carbon source is placed in a press that generates pressures exceeding 5 GPa and temperatures above 1,300°C, causing carbon atoms to crystallize into diamond around a seed crystal. The process uses a metal catalyst — typically iron, nickel, or cobalt — to accelerate crystal growth.

HPHT technology has advanced dramatically over the past decade. Modern cubic and belt presses can now produce gem-quality crystals with exceptional color saturation and clarity. Yuda Crystal operates a large fleet of HPHT presses with a combined monthly capacity of 200,000 carats, making us one of China's most capable HPHT diamond suppliers.

The HPHT Advantage: Fancy Color Diamonds

HPHT is the only commercially viable method for producing gem-quality fancy color diamonds without post-growth treatment. By introducing trace elements during the growth process — nitrogen for vibrant yellow diamonds, boron for stunning blue diamonds — HPHT creates structurally perfect colored crystals with natural-looking color distribution throughout the stone. CVD diamonds, by contrast, typically require post-growth irradiation and annealing to achieve fancy colors, which can result in less stable or uneven coloration.

This inherent advantage makes HPHT the preferred technology for B2B buyers sourcing fancy yellow and fancy blue diamonds for high-end jewelry collections. The color produced through HPHT doping is permanent and stable — it will never fade, change, or require re-treatment.

Colorless HPHT: Strong Performance in Small to Medium Sizes

For colorless diamonds, HPHT excels in the melee to medium size range (0.85--3.50mm), where the technology's efficient growth rates translate to competitive wholesale pricing. HPHT colorless diamonds in the D-F color range are particularly valued for their bright, crisp white appearance — a characteristic of the nitrogen-free Type IIa crystals that HPHT can produce under optimized conditions.

Applications and Buyer Considerations

HPHT diamonds are the go-to choice for fancy color jewelry collections, melee parcels requiring consistent color matching, and rough diamond supply for in-house cutting operations. For buyers who need diamonds that will be set in yellow or rose gold, HPHT's slight tendency toward warmer tones (in non-Type IIa material) can actually complement the metal color, reducing the need for premium D-E-F grades.

Every HPHT diamond from Yuda Crystal undergoes our comprehensive 5-step quality control process and ships with an IGI certification report. Diamond girdles are laser inscribed for full traceability from our factory to your showcase.
